{Weekly Feature} Destiny D. Photography

Hi, Mamas!

Jess here!  Before we get onto this week's theme, we wanted to wish our own admin Allison a fond farewell.   Allison has decided to spend the little time she has between shooting all of her beautiful clients, mentoring, and most importantly, being a mama and wife on travel and focusing on her family this summer.  We dig that 100% and can't thank her enough for all of her hard work and amazing weekly features.

Speaking of feature, let's get right to this week's guest!  We welcome Destiny D. Photography this week.  We've really been enjoying all of your {mobile capture} shares.  Goodness knows I love my iPhone and have over 3,000 pics on it at the moment.  Oops!

  • Where do you hail from?

I was born in Orange County, California. My family moved around during my early childhood, but I call Eden Prairie, Minnesota my true home town. After graduating high school, I went to college at University of Wisconsin - Madison, WI. And I've been here ever since!

  • Tell us three things about you, unrelated to photography.

My husband and I have twin boys that are 3 and a half years old. They amaze us everyday and definitely keep us on our toes. Our world at home revolves around cars, trains, balls and all furniture doubles as a jungle gym!

I have a degree in Meteorology, so I guess you could say my first love was weather. I do still love incorporating weather elements in my photography. And my clients get an added bonus of an exclusive weather forecast for their photo-shoot. haha!

I love snowboarding - and I actually take credit for teaching my husband how to snowboard. Every winter we take a week long vacation out in Utah with his family. They are all skiers, so we are the only boarders. Our boys are starting out on skis though. They just started learning this year and did really well. I was a proud mama!

  • If you were going to venture into a genre you currently don't photograph, what would it be and why?

I would LOVE to travel and take photos for a living. I'm especially drawn to the landscape out west... mountains, ocean, forests. I would love to take a journey with other photographer friends just exploring and taking photos, whether its landscape or portrait photography or both! Anyone in??

  • When did your photography journey begin?

I've always had a love of photography - even in college, I was always the one taking pictures and my point-and-shoot camera went everywhere! I used to travel for work, so I would explore new locations and take photos on almost every trip - mainly landscapes and the occasional selfie before it was cool. I purchased my first DSLR camera when I was pregnant in hopes to be able to take nice photos of our kiddos. Eventually, I started taking photos of my friend's kids and really loved it. I loved capturing moments and editing the final product. After I while, I took a leap of faith and started my business. I'm almost two years into this journey and its been amazing, exciting and exhausting all at the same time!

  • Give us a photography related goal you hope to accomplish?

Few people may know that I still work full time at my day job with a broadcast weather company. My goal is to retire from the corporate world and become my own boss doing photography full time. Hopefully, this goal will become a reality in the next year or two! Oh and another goal is to commit to a 356 project next year so I can make good use of that big camera in between shoots ;-)

Well that wraps up our awesome feature this week. Be sure to check out Destiny D. Photography and thanks again for being such willing and wonderful participants! We have a LOT of news in the week ahead about The Snappy Mama.  So stay tuned!
