Weekly Feature | Cynthia Dawson Photography

Hi Mamas! This week we are welcoming our fabulous guest judge Cynthia of Cynthia Dawson Photography. She has chosen {connection} as her theme and we are LOVING all of the amazing captures we've seen so far, keep 'em coming!

Now - let's get to know Cynthia!

Where do you hail from?

Such a simple question with a complicated answer... haha! We moved a lot as a kid but I spent the most time in central Florida. After I married my husband we traveled a bit (he was in the military). Now I call Ohio home.

Where did your photography journey begin?

My photography journey began after the birth of my second child. It was the first time we hired a professional photographer and she made it look so easy. After I got my "big girl" camera, I learned it definitely was not as easy as I thought it would be. She was a great help and so encouraging.

If you were going to venture into a genre you currently don't photograph, what would it be and why?

I have actually felt the urge to photograph couples more. I already enjoy focusing on them during family sessions and I feel like you can really get a deep connection for the camera if you work for it. I love images that highlight a connection and working with couples definitely makes you focus on that.

What is your favorite piece of gear you own, or what are you lusting after?

My favorite piece of gear has to be the Sigma art 35. I have been lusting after the Sigma 24 for about a year now! Love those wide angles!

What are your biggest challenges you have overcome in your photography?

The biggest challenge would be being too hard on myself.  In the beginning I was too caught up in the technicalities of photography.  Don’t get me wrong, those are important but I have since learned it isn’t everything.  A lot of times the moment trumps everything else.

Keep your {connection} photos coming in and have a great weekend Mamas!

XOXO, Kortnee & The Mamas
