Weekly Feature | Mel Karlberg

Hey, mamas!

We are back and wrapping up our week with this week's guest judge with a super neat feature from Mel Karlberg, and it's a treat, indeed!

Mel has some great interview questions and amazing art to share.  If you're like me, it's Saturday night, and I'm in my PJ's with a cup of decaf, so get comfy and let's share!

What is your favorite image and why?
Right now, it is this one of my kids dancing in the hills of Pennsylvania.  Anytime I can capture the spirit of their relationship in a photo, I am happy.

Tell us 3 things about you, unrelated to photography:
I'm married to my high school sweetheart and feel extremely blessed to have met my soulmate so early in life.

I am a beer snob (luckily, my husband has been home brewing for over 20 years, so I have a partner in my snobbery).
I will watch any talent reality show on TV, from cooking to singing to tattooing to fashion, and I usually don't watch the entire episode so I rarely know who wins.

If you could photograph one person, (famous or someone you really admire) who would it be and why?
I would love to bring my grandma and grandpa back to photograph with my daughter.  They died before we adopted her and they would just adore one another.

I would also love to grab David Duchemin and Chris Orwig and do a group photo shoot with Dave Matthews and Jack Johnson.  We would have to grab dinner after - I have so many questions about the creative process for all four of these guys.

Name a photographer who inspires you:
I'm a bit obsessed with Alain Laboile's work.

What is your best advice you could give yourself if you could go back to the beginning?
Trust your voice and your story - it's okay to like your own work.

Um, can I get an AMEN to that?!

Thanks SO much to Mel for being an awesome guest judge.  Be sure to check out her upcoming workshop through In Beauty and Chaos... "The Reflective Artist"!  This workshop starts Jan. 31st and registration opens this Monday!

xoxo,
Jess & the mamas
