Weekly Feature | Jennifer Carr Photography

Mamas! Hope you are having a great week so far! We are so lucky to have Jennifer, from Jennifer Carr Photography joining us this week at The Snappy Mama. Jennifer has picked the theme {skies} and I (Allison) always enjoy her amazing landscapes and gorgeous sky shots. Make sure you go and check out her incredible work and show her some love.

Now, let's get to know our guest judge, Jennifer even better.

When did your photography journey begin?
At the beach.  When we bought our home after just getting married, we couldn't afford the beautiful photography we'd see at art shows.  Forrest offered to buy me a camera instead and I became obsessed with learning.  I practiced on landscapes, wildlife, really anything I could find to shoot.  The first few years were a struggle.  Had I only known that the meter doesn't show up until you turn the camera off auto, I would have progressed much faster.

Name a photographer who inspires you?
Kate T. Parker.  She worked her tail off to become the sensation she is today.  Her photographs are spectacular, but her message is even more empowering.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live and what is something you'd like to photograph from there?
Some days it's Italy, some days it's Switzerland.  I love them both.  The simplicity of the lives there is absolutely fascinating to me.  I'd love to spend time documenting the lives of the natives, the culture, the food.  And of course all of the beautiful landscapes.

What are the biggest challenges you have overcome in your photography?
Self doubt.  It took me years to feel proud to call myself a photographer.  And even longer to be proud of my photography choices.  As someone who shoots a variety of subjects, I often have felt pressure to define myself.  But, a very wise friend told me not too long ago that I don't owe a definition to anyone.  I am who I am and I am proud of what I shoot.

What is your best advice you would give yourself if you could go back to the beginning?
Ask for help.  Whether it's getting a mentor, taking a workshop, or stopping someone on the street with a camera, whatever it is you are struggling with there is someone you can learn from.  Don't be embarrassed, we all started at the beginning.

Keep your amazing {skies} submissions coming in, Mamas! Have a fantastic week!

XOXO, Allison and the Mamas
