Weekly Feature | Antoinette de Lima Photography

What a busy week, Mama's! I know I have been playing catching up all week and can't wait for a micro break with Thanksgiving next week!!!

Without further ado -- our guest judge this week is Antoinette from Antoinette de Lima Photography. Make sure you go and show her bunches of love! This week she has chosen the theme {don't look at me.}

Where do you hail from?

I'm from Lima, Peru, raised in Fort Lauderdale from the time I was 6, and currently live in Cadiz, KY. I've lived in a few different places, thanks to having been in the Navy, but also a lot of my immediate family moved to Las Vegas several years ago, so I've lived there as well. This is one of the biggest reasons photography is so important to me- my family is spread out all over the place. Photo opportunities are few and far between.

What is your favorite image and why?

My favorite image changes. At the moment, it is the one of my three boys with their shin guards, cleats, and soccer ball. My youngest does not have have his soccer socks on, my middle son's socks don't match, and what you can't see is that son #2 did not want to touch son #1. We are a soccer family, and we are not perfect. The fact that they were bickering one day will be funny when we look back on this image.

Tell us three things about you, unrelated to photography.
By day, I am a Spanish Court Interpreter. Most days, I truly love my job. I LOVE speaking Spanish. Most people when they first meet me don't even know I speak Spanish because I have zero accent- I wish I still had it though!  I am afraid of forgetting, so I capture as much as I can. Whether it is cooking our meals, my family's everyday life, my boys playing their sports, or visits with much loved family and friends, I try to capture as much as I can. I am a beach lover. (This is the biggest understatement in the history of understatements.) I cannot wait until the day I am living close to the Atlantic once again. I am pretty sure I left my soul out there when I moved away. This one is photography related, but I can tell you a backstory on almost every single picture I have ever taken. Ha! I have stories for everything!

Give us a photography related goal you hope to accomplish?
More than anything, my wish is to make my mark on this earth. Even if someone does not remember my name years down the road, or even if it is my family and friends, when they look at pictures I took, I want them to feel as if they are reliving that very moment all over again. (I suppose this is my own human desire to be remembered in some way?) That and when someone sees an image that they recognize it is my work. My husband and friends will let me know sometimes, "Hey, look at this. I wondered if maybe you took this."

What are the biggest challenges you have overcome in your photography?
Ah!! Listening to my own voice!!! I will ask for technical help, but as I have told my sweet friend, Jessica Diedrich in our many conversations, 99.9999% of the time when I share something, it is because I like it as it is. I don't seek approval anymore from everyone else. Maybe that sounds a little harsh, but it is true. I love other photographer's work, but it doesn't do me any good to copy someone else's style. Always, always, ALWAYS be yourself. It's your work, it's your art, it's your gift to the world- it should be your own voice.

Keep your {don't look at me} submissions coming in! Have a great week Mama's!!!!!

XOXO, Allison and the mama's
