Weekly Feature | Kortnee Kasten - Tumbling Sparrow Photography

Hey Mamas!
We are super excited to have Kortnee from Tumbling Sparrow Photography as the guest judge this week here at The Snappy Mama. She chose {urban vibes} as the theme and there has been some fantastic submissions so far!
Kortnee's work is nothing short of amazing -from her unique and adorable business name to her gorgeous processing and style. Make sure you check out her page, give it a like -- because you will love it all.
Now, let's get to know our judge better....

When did your photography journey begin?

Just before my own wedding. We were frantically searching for a photographer that would suite our needs and be affordable, luckily our friend (an established photog) stepped in and offered. Soon after I offered to assist her on a few weddings just to see what actually goes on behind the scenes and I was hooked! What a great feeling it was leaving someone's big day with images I was proud to say I captured. It wasn't until I was looking for a film camera to use for my college photography class that my mom pulled out hers and said "Here you go, I used to photograph weddings with your dad when I was younger" Unintentionally or not I feel so lucky to be following in my own mama's footsteps.

Name a photographer who inspires you. What draws you to their work?

Joy Prouty from Wildflowers Photography. http://wildflowersphotos.com/ Seriously, if you've never heard of her she will change your life. The way she tells her story - the raw, beautiful & unscripted life moments captured into images just blows me away. I orginally found her on instagram and was amazed by the pictures she took on her phone, imagine my surprise when I discovered her actual website! Wow. Seriously everyone needs a little "Joy" in their life!

Canon or Nikon? Something else? Sell us on your brand!

I shoot Canon because that's what I know, but after years of focusing on having the latest and greatest equipment I realized that although having the right equipment is important, it is truly the artist that
makes the photo, the camera is just there to encourage you to capture it.

Give us a photography related goal you hope to accomplish within a year.

Oh dear - my mind never stops buzzing with things I'd like to accomplish. This year I have set a goal to experiment with different ideas & settings I've had in my head and right now I've got an idea in the works that involves families, farm animals, & dreamy sunsets. Can't wait to share!

What program do you use to edit your images?

I'm a Photoshop girl. At my previous job as a web designer I used it almost exclusively so I just got used to it. Although I've used both PS & Lightroom as editing tools I love how PS allows me to focus on one image at a time.

Isn't Kortnee's work from Tumbling Sparrow Photography gorgeous? We sure are lucky to have her as a judge this week. Don't forget to post your {urban vibes} submissions due this Sunday!!!
xoxo, Allison and The Mama's
