Weekly Feature | Anda Panciuk

Hey, mamas!

Not only am I happy to be here to showcase our amazing guest judge, I just had to pop in and tell you ALL what an amazing job you're doing with this week's theme, {anonymous portrait}!  Seriously BLOWN away by the emotion, creativity, and beauty in each image!

The driving force behind this week's theme is our guest judge, Anda Panciuk.  Are you a fan of her page?  If you're not, you will be after this!   We had a few minutes to chat w/ Anda and can't wait to share what we learned:

WHEN DID YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY JOURNEY BEGIN?

After years of wanting a ‘good’ camera, I finally saved enough money to buy myself a DSLR in July of 2012. I was immediately smitten with my new toy, but had to wait two very long months before starting my first photography class and learning how to shoot in manual. That fall, I began a 365 project, and that was the definitive point where I started eating, sleeping and breathing photography. It’s been almost 3 years now, and I am just as in love as ever!

NAME A PHOTOGRAPHER WHO INSPIRES YOU. WHAT DRAWS YOU TO THEIR WORK?

I’m currently feeling very enamored with David DuChemin’s work. I subscribe to his blog and I can’t decide which I enjoy more, his photography or his writing. His travel photography is phenomenal, and his writing is articulate and honest. When he pairs his images with his own words, the result is pure brilliance that appeals to both my heart and mind. I’d love to meet him one day and tell him that in person!

CANON OR NIKON? SOMETHING ELSE? SELL US ON YOUR BRAND!
Ah, the great Canon vs. Nikon debate! I truly believe that it’s what the photographer does with the camera that counts, and not the brand. Having said that, I did do a lot of research before buying my first DSLR, and I was divided because both Canon and Nikon make excellent cameras. In the end, it was a toss up, but I went with the one that felt best in my hands, and that was... the Canon!

GIVE US A PHOTOGRAPHY-RELATED GOAL YOU HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH WITHIN A YEAR.

I keep a list of yearly photography goals, which is actually more of a to-do list, and it contains very specific items I like to cross off as I achieve them. I can devise all the lists in the world however, and it will all boil down to achieving one simple goal, which is just to keep getting better. I came to photography quite late in the game, and at this point I’m much more interested in the journey than arriving at the destination.

WHAT PROGRAM DO YOU USE TO EDIT YOUR IMAGES? TELL US QUICKLY WHY YOU LOVE IT!

Lightroom 5 is great for fixing most issues, but if more work is required, I won’t hesitate to take an image into Photoshop CS6 for further adjustments. Although editing isn’t my favorite thing to do, I do enjoy seeing my images come to life with a little post-production work. This is an area where I feel I could improve; in fact, an editing class is on my to-do list!

Ok...NOW do you see why we're obsessed?   Thank you so much to Anda for judging this week and for taking the time to comment on all of the entries.   We just adore you and your work!   Mamas, you have until Sunday at NOON to get your entries in.  Be sure to check out more of Anda's work on her website as well as her Facebook page.  Have fun and happy Thursday!

xoxo,
Jess & the Mamas
