Spotlight on: {Holly from Holly Nicole Photography}

Hello Snappy Mama Fans!

Hope everyone is having a great week! Here we are at the end of April already. Holy cats! Can you believe it? With May brings the warmer weather and blooming flowers. Kids are outside running free and working off all that energy. YEAH! I love this time of year! This week we have an amazing judge who has given us such a great theme for this time of year - {Discovery}. How will you interpret this one this week? We can't wait to see! Holly of Holly Nicole Photography is quite talented! You must go and check out her work! She has been featured on several various pages for her beautiful work. Here is a little insight into her photography journey...

Enjoy!

1. When did your photography journey begin?

I have always been interested in photography. Looking at it and studying it at a young age made me want to learn how to do it.  I started college in 1998 and the first classes I took were photography classes. I used my dad’s vintage Nikkormat that he bought when he was in the military and he traveled the world and took several classes on film, composition and developing in a dark room.  I dabbled in film for a while and then digital cameras became popular. I got a point and shoot in 2005 when my oldest daughter was born (because that’s what a 24 year old could afford) and still loved capturing moments of my girl growing up. I knew I could accomplish more but a manual camera wasn’t in the budget. In 2008, I had my second daughter and my husband bought me my first DSLR. I had no idea how to use it and I shot in automatic or semi-automatic for 3 years. Finally, in 2011, I decided to learn how to use the tool I had and started shooting in manual. I took classes, read books, watched tutorials online… I haven’t looked back since. I’m very much still a work in progress and there is so much more I want to learn. But I’m loving every minute of it.

2. Name a photographer who inspires you. What draws you to their work?

There are way to many people to list them all. I am inspired by so many artists. My favorites tend to do mostly black and white work and show a lot of emotion and movement in their images. The images that speak to me seem alive in a still frame. That’s not easy to accomplish and it is a goal I have that I’d like to improve in my own work.

3. Canon? Nikon? Sell us on your brand.

I’m a Nikon girl. I love my camera and my lenses. I’d love to tell you that I chose Nikon because of all the pros I found when researching cameras. But the truth is I shoot Nikon because that’s what my husband bought for me. I honestly feel that it’s not the camera or the equipment that makes the difference. Creativity and skill trump equipment every time.

4. Give us a photography related goal you would like to accomplish within a year.

I would like to improve my color edits and work on creative editing this year.

5. What program do you use to edit your images in? Tell us quickly why you love it (or if you don't).

I edit in Lightroom and Photoshop. Lightroom keeps me organized and I do all my basic edits and my black and white edits in LR. I go to Photoshop for cloning and more creative stuff like adding overlays etc.  I know there is so much more of Photoshop I need to learn. It’s such a powerful tool.

Pretty inspiring right? Be sure to come over to her page and show her some love. Get inspired by looking through her images. I am pretty sure it won't be hard for that to happen. :)  We are so excited to have her as our judge this week. Keep those images coming until Sunday night. We love seeing your work!

xoxo Jen
