Spotlight On: {Jennifer Kielich}

Hi, mamas!  We have such a treat for you today, getting all cozy at 'home' with JENNIFER KIELICH, this week's fabulous guest judge!  I love the crisp, organic feel to all of her beautiful images.  So glad she is this week's guest judge and am really enjoying your "no place like home" features.

Here's a bit about Jennifer:

When did your photography journey begin?

Like many other photographers out there, my journey began after the birth of my twins in 2012. I had been a hobbyists for many years, but once those amazing little people came into my life, my hobby quickly turned into an obsession. I wanted to capture everything I could, and I wanted to do it well! I scoured the internet for information, I upgraded my camera, bought a few high end lenses, and after a few weeks with the new gear, I decided to start a business! I just sort of dived right in, and both my professional and personal work has benefited from that.

Name a photographer who inspires you. What draws you to their work?

It’s tough to choose just one! There are so many amazing photographers that inspire me daily. Off the top of my head though, I’d have to say Joy Prouty of Wildflowers Photography. Her work is so genuine and raw, and the connections she captures are beyond words. Beautiful is an understatement. Connection, interaction, authenticity….these are things I want to capture in my own work.

Canon or Nikon?

I’ve been a Canon girl since day one. I love my Mark III! I have a number of Canon lenses that I love as well, though the Sigma 35 I bought recently is out of the world! So sharp! I’ll probably go for another Sigma lens next time I’m in the market!

Give us a photography related goal you hope to accomplish within a year.

When I started out a couple of years ago, it was all about portraits. They’re easier to sell from a business standpoint (at least in my area). I still love capturing beautiful portraits, but this past year I fell head over heels in love with lifestyle photography. It’s definitely where my heart lies these days. I think it’s because my kids are a bit older now. I want to capture the “real" versions of them; with the messy hair and the mismatched clothing. That’s the good stuff! I feel like every mother out there wants to hold onto those memories too, whether they know it or not, so I started offering lifestyle sessions for clients at the beginning of this year. I’d really like to see that take off in 2015!

What program do you use to edit your images? Why do you love it?

I primarily edit in Photoshop. I love how creative you can get with this program if you know how to use it. 90% of my workflow is done there (I’m running CC). I recently started veering away from ACR in favor of Lightroom for basic RAW edits though and I LOVE it! So I’ll usually get all my basic adjustments done in LR and then head over to PS for everything else.  {music to Jess's ears, this is, haha!}

Well, mamas, we hope you had as much of a great morning as we did getting to know Jennifer.  Her website is absolutely STUNNING and we'd love for you to head over!

Happy Wednesday, everyone!
