{Spotlight on:} Courtney Maltman

Hola Mamas!

How can it be that we are just a few days away from MARCH??!! 2 months already done with 2015. WOW! I can't believe it. I feel like time is just flying and I want to freeze the moments with my family. Thank god for my camera to be able to look back at all of these times!

We are so thrilled to have Courtney Maltman of Momentologie Photography judging for us this week. And she has brought us an incredible theme of {grain}. Grain doesn't always have to relate to B&W, she is so so excited to see your color images too. Let's take some time and get to know her...

Tell us about your photography journey:

I think my photo journey may be quite different from most photographers. I didn't always have this passion for the art form. While I have always been an artistic person and have a deep appreciation for the arts, It didn't call to me until about 2 years ago. And really my true journey began just under a year ago, when I invested in my DSLR and a couple of simple lenses. Since then, I have been working hard on capturing little moments, personalities, simple details, and love. This is what life is about and this is what I want my work to represent.

Any photogs that you admire most?

It would be completely impossible for me to name just one photographer. I could name a hundred that inspire me! But what I can tell you the type of photographer that inspires me; the ones who are authentic. To me, authenticity is everything. Embrace your photo style (whatever that may be)  and put your whole heart into it! Be honest with yourself and take that with you every time you pick up your camera.

Canon? Nikon? Other?

Well, I shoot Nikon, but I am not biased. I shot with an old Canon Rebel for a year before I switched to Nikon, and they are both amazing brands. I can't promise I am going to stick with Nikon for the long haul, but for now I am very happy with the quality I get from my little D7100.

Tell us about your photography related goals you might have for this year.

So many goals, so little time!! :-) This past year has already been so amazing, I have accomplished so much more than I could have ever dreamed of, by just doing this part time. Honestly, my biggest goal is to grow my business by making beautiful, timeless, emotive images for my clients. Of course, that is the overall goal, but I need to accomplish many other little goals to get there completely. And my heart is all in, so I know I can make it all happen the way I want it to, for myself and for every single person I see in front of my lens! I will say this though; I am drawn to moments, and while I appreciate the simple posed portrait, I will be focusing much more on capturing honest moments, personalities, and major life changing events (hello birth photography!) this year.

PS? LR? Both? Neither? Tell us about your editing workflow.

Simply, Lightroom. I am a minimalist, and with just a few adjustment with the sliders in LR, I can easily get the image to tell the story I saw through my lens.

She's pretty spectacular isn't she?? We hope you have a great week! And we look forward to looking at your images! Be sure to come over to Courtney's page and show her some love!
