{Spotlight Mama: Tess Runion}

Happy Friday, all!

We're here to showcase the lovely Tess of Tess Runion Photography today.  Tess has been doing a super job at being  this week's guest judge and I'm loving her theme of "the ordinary."  So many great 'everyday' images...I don't know how she's going to choose!

Here's a bit about our guest:

1. Tell us about your photography journey:

My photography journey began 1 and a half years ago when I bought my first DSLR. I had no idea I was even on a journey at that time. I had always been drawn to picture taking and the time was right so I dove in. It is still unbelievable to me how immediate photography became a part of me. I am inspired by beautiful everyday images of my 3 kids just living. I strive to portray in my work that the ordinary is what counts. I love to get the details of my kids activities. The way they interact with each other. The way they talk with their hands. The way my boy swings his bat in a circle when he steps up to the plate. All of my photographs serve as my memory and theirs. Today I could not survive without my camera around my neck.

2. Tell us about a photographer you really admire:

 I admire and I am inspired on a daily basis by several photographers. So hard to choose just one.

Summer Murdock Photography for her amazing use of light
The Blissful Maven for her artistic abitilty to capture raw emotion
Jellybean Pictures for her one of a kind way of documenting her clients in their own environment

 3. The age-old question- Canon?  Nikon?

I am a Nikon girl. In my bag you'll find a Nikon D600, Sigma 35mm 1.4, Nikkor 50mm 1.4 and Nikkor 85mm 1.8.

4. Tell us some of your photography related goals for this year:

I have 2 main goals for the next year...

For the business side of my work I am moving toward offering only in-home lifestyle sessions. I truly love a good portrait, however my passion lies in documenting real life.

Personally, I just want to grow as an artist. Be more creative. Learn something new everyday. Follow my heart in my work. And eventually apply for a pro postion,

5. What's your editing workflow?

I edit in ACR and Photoshop cs6. I am not as saavy of an editor as I want to be yet, but the benefit to that challenge is that I  have to do well getting it right in the camera first!

We are so thrilled to have had Tess for the week at Snappy Mama! Remember, you have until Sunday at 5pm CST to get those "ordinary" images in!  Be sure to check out Tess's page and swoon over her beautiful work!
