{Spotlight Mama: Jen Bilodeau}

Hey, everyone!

It's Jess here and I'm so excited to introduce you to this week's guest judge and spotlight mama, Jen Bilodeau.

I haven't known Jen too long, but I fell in LOVE w/ her photos as soon as I saw them.  She has a wonderful eye for lifestyle and capturing the everyday moments while making them magical!

Here's a little Q&A with Jen:

1.  When did your photography journey begin?

I think my photography journey began long before I realized.   Since I was a little girl I've always carried a camera with me........and I've got boxes and bookshelves of albums documenting all phases of my life.  But it wasn't until my husband got me my first DSLR in lieu of an engagement ring (perfect!) that I really wanted to take my photography to the next level.  I used my camera constantly, but that "M" still frightened me for quite a while.  Motivated by a dear friend who encouraged me to take control of my camera,  I started studying artists and reading everything I could get my hands on......Then one day I felt ready, switched it to manual, and I haven't looked back since :)

2.  Name a photographer who inspires you.

I really admire the work of Kate T Parker.  Her images are so REAL....the expressions and emotion just jump off the image at you in the most flawless way.  Her images always look as if she simply stumbled upon a moment and proceeded to capture it perfectly.  I love that she has developed her own unique (and gorgeous) processing style.

3.  Canon?  Nikon?  Other?

Nikon!  I upgraded to the D800 this year and I can't say enough good things about it!  My favorite lenses are my 50mm 1.4 and my 70-200mm.  These lenses are perfect for capturing my kids just doing what they do - I can get get up close to capture the details or I can step back for a nice wide angel of the whole room they are playing in to add color to the story I am telling.

4.  What is one photography-related goal you have for this year?

This year I am doing my first 365.  This has been the most incredibly personal and eye opening project.  I have learned SO much as an artist but I'm pretty sure it's also helping me grow as a person and as a mother.  This project helps me to be allows me to press pause for a minute on a ride that is otherwise going a million miles an hour.  Clicking and capturing my family's "everyday" really helps me appreciate that who we are in this moment is beautifully different from who we were yesterday and who we will become tomorrow.  When I began on January 1st, I wasn't sure if I could do this project but I dove in anyway.........and I now I'm certain this is something I will continue for years to come.

5.  What program do you use to edit your images and why do you love it?

I'm a Lightroom girl.  Love how easy it is to use.  I'm drawn to B&W images and I feel Lightroom gives me a lot of control over the image and what I want to do with it.  I'm s..l...o...w..l...y learning Photoshop and am starting to use it for some specific editing that Lightroom can't do......but I always start and finish with Lightroom.

YES! Can you SEE why we all fell in love with her and her work? So excited and honored to have had you this week, Jen. Be sure to stop by and LIKE her Facebook page to see more of her gorgeous imagery. We'll see you back here Monday morning with the winners of her "Spontaneous" theme!
